We are proud to announce the release of Skybrush Studio for Blender 3.10.0, adding support for exporting drone shows into the Finale 3D .vviz format.

As always, you can follow the release changes in detail in the changelog. Some highlights are detailed below.

Compatibility with Finale 3D #

For those who plan drone shows together with fireworks, the new Finale 3D VVIZ export option can be a handy tool to use. We have created the Finale 3D exporter as yet another third-party export format, all available in the Studio X package. Please download Skybrush Studio Server 2.22.0 or later to be able to use the exporter.

The current implementation can export drone trajectories, LED light animations and yaw setpoints.

Since the .vviz format stores trajectories and light animation in a sampled/baked format that can result in large files and superfluous memory consumption, we have also added the usual trajectory and light frame rate settings to the exporter options to be able to define the optimal temporal resolution to be used in Finale 3D.

Finale 3D VVIZ export options

Note that the VVIZ format is an open format and there are other fireworks visualization software that support it, so with the VVIZ exporter you gain compatibility for example with FWSim as well.

We have also started to work on supporting drone-launched fireworks right from Skybrush Studio Blender. Suggestions and feedback on what exactly is needed for the best user experience in this regard is always welcome!

End frames became inclusive #

Please be aware that starting from Studio Blender 3.10.0 the representation of “End frame” and “Duration” fields has changed to make the end frames inclusive, accomodating our add-on to Blender standards. This affects both Storyboard and Light effect entries.

As a result, the time fraction used in individual light effect calculations now scales such that it starts from zero at the start frame and reaches 1 at the end frame.

Providing feedback #

As always, feel free to contact us on Discord for feedback, bug reports, feature requests and ideas. If you would like to report an issue and you know which component of Skybrush is the source of the problem, you can also open an issue in the issue tracker of the corresponding repository on Github.
